Definition
Valsts darba inspekcija (VDI), or the State Labour Inspectorate, is a direct administration institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Welfare in Latvia. Its primary function is to implement state supervision and control in the areas of employment legal relations and occupational safety and health. The Inspectorate is tasked with ensuring that employers and employees adhere to the requirements of labour laws and regulations, including those pertaining to equal pay and working conditions. It also provides consultations, promotes social dialogue, and investigates workplace incidents.
