Definition

Established by Law No. 6701, the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye (TİHEK) is an independent public legal entity with administrative and financial autonomy. Its core mission is to protect and promote human rights, ensure the right to equal treatment, prevent discrimination in the exercise of legally recognized rights and freedoms, and effectively combat torture and ill-treatment, also serving as the National Preventive Mechanism. TİHEK investigates, examines, and makes final decisions on violations of human rights and the principle of non-discrimination.
