Successive Fixed-Term Contracts

Multiple fixed-term contracts between the same employer and employee for the same work.

Definition

'Successive fixed-term contracts' refer to a series of fixed-term employment contracts or relationships concluded between an employer and the same employee for the same or similar work. The Directive and Maltese law aim to prevent the abuse of such contracts by setting limits on their total duration or number of renewals, thereby providing greater employment security and a pathway to permanent employment for workers who might otherwise be kept in a perpetual temporary status.
