Saudization (Nitaqat)
A national policy to increase the employment of Saudi nationals in the private sector.
Definition
Saudization, also known as the Nitaqat program, is a national policy in Saudi Arabia aimed at increasing the proportion of Saudi nationals in the private sector workforce. It mandates employers to actively attract and employ Saudis, provide conditions to retain them, and offer adequate opportunities for training and qualification. Employers are required to meet specific percentage targets for Saudi workers, typically not less than 75% of the total workforce, though temporary reductions may be granted by the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development under specific circumstances. This policy is a key component of the Kingdom's economic development strategy.
