Quartile Pay Bands

Four equal divisions of an employer's workforce based on hourly remuneration, used to show gender distribution across pay levels.

Definition

Quartile pay bands are created by ranking all employees within an organisation from the lowest to the highest hourly remuneration and then dividing this ranked list into four equal sections: lower, lower middle, upper middle, and upper quartiles. Employers are required to report the percentage of male and female employees within each of these bands to illustrate gender distribution across different pay levels.
