Protected Grounds

Characteristics on which discrimination is prohibited.

Definition

The 'Protected Grounds' are the specific characteristics based on which discrimination is prohibited under the Act. These include gender, pregnancy, leave in connection with childbirth or adoption, care responsibilities, ethnicity (including national origin, descent, skin colour, and language), religion, belief, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, or combinations of these factors.
