Promotional Opportunity

A provision under the Illinois Pay Transparency Amendment requiring employers to announce, post, or otherwise make known all opportunities for promotion to all current employees no later than 14 calendar days after the employer makes an external job posting for the same position. This ensures internal candidates are aware of and can apply for advancement opportunities.

Under the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act, a 'promotional opportunity' is defined as an opening for a position that entails both a change in job title and an increase in compensation. Employers are mandated to make reasonable efforts to notify current employees in affected departments of such opportunities, whether they are advertised internally or externally. This ensures that existing employees have equitable access to career advancement within their organization, promoting internal mobility and fairness in career progression.
