Parental Benefit
Financial compensation provided by the state to parents during periods of parental leave.
Definition
Parental benefit (Föräldrapenning) is the financial allowance paid by the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan) to parents who are on parental leave. This benefit is typically income-based for a significant portion of the leave days, aiming to replace a substantial part of the parent's lost income, and is regulated by the Social Insurance Code (2010:110). It enables parents to take time off work to care for their children without severe financial hardship.
