Definition
As part of its mandate, the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye (TİHEK) functions as the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM). This role involves effectively combating torture and ill-treatment, and preventing human rights breaches, in line with international obligations. TİHEK carries out activities to monitor places of detention and other facilities where persons are deprived of their liberty, ensuring the prevention of ill-treatment.
