Mindestlohnkommission

An independent commission that proposes adjustments to the statutory minimum wage in Germany.

Definition

The Mindestlohnkommission is an independent, standing commission established by the Federal Government, consisting of representatives from employer and employee organizations, along with scientific advisors. Its main task is to review and propose adjustments to the statutory minimum wage rate every two years. The commission's recommendations are based on an overall assessment of economic and social developments, ensuring that the minimum wage remains adequate and responsive to market conditions. Its proposals are then adopted by the Federal Government through a statutory instrument.
