The principal government body responsible for enforcing labour laws and promoting harmonious labour relations in Hong Kong.
Definition
The Labour Department is the executive arm of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government responsible for the administration and enforcement of labour laws, including the Employment Ordinance. Its functions include providing advisory services, conciliating labour disputes, investigating complaints, conducting workplace inspections, and prosecuting employers who violate statutory provisions. The department also plays a key role in promoting occupational safety and health, and in implementing international labour standards.
