Labor Jurisdiction
A specialized judicial system established under the Judicial Branch to hear and resolve disputes related to labor matters.
Definition
Article 70 of the Costa Rica Constitution mandates the establishment of a 'labor jurisdiction' within the Judicial Branch. This specialized court system is responsible for adjudicating conflicts and claims arising from employment relationships, including issues of wage disputes, unfair dismissal, discrimination, and violations of other labor rights. Its existence ensures that workers have access to a dedicated and expert legal forum for the enforcement of their constitutional and statutory labor protections.
