Indirect Violence

Discriminatory practices that disadvantage women compared to men.

Definition

Indirect Violence, as defined in Article 4 of Law 26.485, refers to any conduct, action, omission, disposition, criterion, or discriminatory practice that places a woman at a disadvantage compared to a man. This concept is crucial for identifying subtle yet pervasive forms of discrimination that may not be immediately apparent as direct acts of violence but nonetheless perpetuate gender inequality and harm women's rights and opportunities. It allows for the recognition of systemic biases and structural barriers that disproportionately affect women, including those in the economic and labor spheres, even if not intentionally designed to do so.
