Human Rights Tribunal
Adjudicative body for human rights complaints.
Definition
The Human Rights Tribunal is an independent adjudicative body established under the Human Rights Act 1981 (as amended in 2021) to hear and determine complaints of discrimination that are not resolved through conciliation or mediation by the Human Rights Commission. The Tribunal has the power to determine whether the Act has been contravened, award compensation to aggrieved parties, and impose penalties on non-compliant parties, thereby providing a formal mechanism for redress and enforcement of human rights.
