Gender Equity, as the overarching principle of the Ghana Gender Equity Act 2024, refers to the fair treatment of women and men according to their respective needs. This may include equal treatment or treatment that is different but considered equivalent in terms of rights, benefits, obligations, and opportunities. It acknowledges that women and men may have different needs and power and that these differences should be identified and addressed in a manner that rectifies historical and systemic imbalances, ultimately leading to gender equality. The Act aims to achieve gender equity through various provisions, including equal pay, fair representation, and non-discrimination.
