Gender Equality, within the Rwandan context and as promoted by RS 560:2023, signifies a societal and organizational state where women and men, girls and boys, possess the same opportunities, rights, and obligations across all facets of life. This encompasses an equitable distribution of power and influence, equal access to economic independence, and comparable conditions and premises concerning work, career progression, and opportunities for personal and professional development. It further implies equal access to education, the freedom to pursue individual ambitions and interests, shared responsibilities for domestic duties and childcare, and a complete absence of gender-related or sexual harassment in any environment. The standard aims to systematically address and rectify existing gender inequalities to achieve this comprehensive state of balance and fairness.
