Rights & Remedies
Forced Labour
Any work or service exacted from a person under the menace of any penalty and for which the person has not offered himself voluntarily.
Definition
The Employment (Amendment) Act 2022 explicitly outlaws forced labour, defining it as an offense where an employer threatens, deceives, or forces an employee to do any activity, service, or work and prevents that employee from proceeding beyond the place or area where such activity, service, or work is done. This provision aligns with international conventions and carries severe penalties, including substantial fines and imprisonment, for employers found guilty of such practices.
