Fine Unit

A standardized monetary unit used to calculate administrative fines in Latvia.

Definition

A fine unit is a standardized monetary value used in Latvia to express the amount of administrative penalties. Under the Law on Administrative Liability, one fine unit is equivalent to five euros (EUR). This system replaced the previous practice of expressing fines directly in euros, providing a more flexible and potentially adjustable framework for administrative sanctions. The use of fine units applies to both natural and legal persons, with maximum penalties set in units.
