The Entgeltgleichheitsgebot, or equal pay principle, is a fundamental legal requirement stipulating that employers must provide equal remuneration to women and men for performing work that is either identical in nature ('gleiche Arbeit') or considered to be of equal value ('gleichwertige Arbeit'). This principle prohibits any direct or indirect discrimination based on sex concerning all components and conditions of pay, ensuring fairness and non-discrimination in compensation practices. It forms the core objective of the Entgelttransparenzgesetz and its reform.
