Equal Pay for Equal Work is a fundamental principle enshrined in the Rwandan Constitution and reinforced by its Labour Law, asserting that all individuals are entitled to identical remuneration when performing jobs that are objectively determined to be of equal value, irrespective of their gender. This principle extends beyond merely identical job titles to encompass roles that may differ in nature but require comparable levels of skill, effort, responsibility, and are performed under similar working conditions. RS 560:2023 seeks to ensure that organizations implement robust systems for job evaluation and remuneration structuring that eliminate any gender-based pay disparities, thereby upholding this core right.
