An employment contract (contrat de travail / arbeidsovereenkomst) is defined by the Belgian Employment Contracts Act as an agreement between a worker (employee) and an employer, under which the worker undertakes to perform work under the authority and supervision of the employer, in return for a salary or remuneration. The four essential elements for its existence are an agreement, the performance of work, the payment of remuneration, and a relationship of subordination.
