Definition
The Employment and Industrial Relations Act (Cap. 452) is the principal piece of legislation in Malta that consolidates and amends laws relating to employment conditions and industrial relations. Enacted in 2002, it provides the overarching legal framework for employment contracts, protection of wages, anti-discrimination provisions, termination of service, and the resolution of industrial disputes. Wage Regulation Orders are issued as subsidiary legislation under the authority of the EIRA.
