Economic and Patrimonial Violence
Actions causing detriment to a woman's economic or patrimonial resources, including wage discrimination.
Definition
Economic and Patrimonial Violence, as defined by Law 26.485, refers to any action that aims to diminish a woman's economic or patrimonial resources. This encompasses a range of behaviors, such as the limitation or control of her income, the deprivation of essential means for a dignified life, and crucially, the perception of a lower salary for performing equal work within the same workplace. It also includes actions that cause damage, loss, subtraction, destruction, retention, or distraction of her assets, instruments of work, personal documents, or economic resources, or the arbitrary limitation of access to them. This broad definition highlights the law's recognition of financial control and wage discrimination as significant forms of gender-based violence, directly impacting a woman's autonomy and well-being.
