Discrimination against any person
Any distinction, exclusion, or restriction based on sex or gender that impairs human rights and fundamental freedoms.
Definition
As defined in the Nigeria Gender Equality Bill, "Discrimination against any person" refers to "any distinction, exclusion or restriction made on the basis of his or her sex or gender or other condition or status... which has the effect or purpose of impairing or nullifying the recognition, enjoyment or exercise by any person, irrespective of their marital status, on a basis of equality of men and women, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural, civil or any other field." This broad definition aims to cover both direct and indirect forms of gender-based disadvantage, providing a comprehensive legal basis for challenging discriminatory practices.
