This broad definition aligns with international standards, recognizing that disability is not solely an individual attribute but also a consequence of societal barriers. The Act aims to address these barriers to ensure equal opportunities and treatment for persons with disabilities across all spheres of life, including employment.
As defined in the Kenya Disability Rights Act, 'Disability' refers to a physical, sensory, mental, intellectual, or other impairment, including a medical condition, that in interaction with various barriers, may hinder a person’s full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.
