Definition
A principle of EU law established by the Court of Justice of the European Union, whereby certain provisions of EU law (such as Article 157 TFEU) can be directly invoked by individuals before national courts, even in disputes between private parties, without the need for specific national implementing legislation. This empowers individuals to enforce their rights under EU law directly.
