Treating one person less favourably than another in a comparable situation based on a protected characteristic.
Definition
Direct discriminatory treatment occurs where one person is treated less favourably than another is, has been, or would be, treated in a comparable situation on any of the grounds referred to in the Equal Treatment in Employment Regulations, such as religion or religious belief, disability, age, sex, sexual orientation, or racial or ethnic origin.
