The Data State Inspectorate (Datu valsts inspekcija - DVI) is the independent public authority in Latvia tasked with monitoring the application of the Law on the Processing of Personal Data and the GDPR. Its responsibilities include investigating complaints, conducting audits, issuing warnings and reprimands, imposing administrative fines, and providing guidance to data controllers and data subjects. The DVI plays a crucial role in ensuring that personal data processing activities in Latvia, including those in the employment sector, comply with legal requirements and that the rights of data subjects are protected. It also represents Latvia on the European Data Protection Board.
