Darba likums, known as the Labour Law, is the principal source of employment law in Latvia. Adopted on June 20, 2001, and effective from June 1, 2002, this comprehensive law regulates various aspects of employment relationships, including the fundamental rights and obligations of employers and employees. It covers areas such as working time, rest periods, wages, occupational safety, and crucially, the principle of equal remuneration for the same kind of work or work of equal value, as well as general equal rights and non-discrimination in employment.

The Darba likums is the primary legislative act in Latvia that governs all aspects of employment legal relationships between employers and employees, including employment contracts, working time, remuneration, and non-discrimination. It came into force on June 1, 2002, and has been subject to numerous amendments to align with international and European Union labour standards.
