Continuous Employment
The uninterrupted period an employee works for an employer, starting from the first day of work until termination.
Definition
Continuous employment refers to the unbroken duration of an individual's service with an employer, commencing from their initial start date (including any probationary period) and extending up to the date of termination. The Act presumes employment is continuous unless proven otherwise by the employer. This concept is fundamental for determining an employee's eligibility for various statutory rights and benefits, including sick leave, vacation entitlements, severance allowance, and protection against unfair dismissal, all of which often accrue based on the length of service with a particular employer.
