Consejos de Salarios
Tripartite bodies in Uruguay responsible for negotiating and setting minimum wages and working conditions for various economic sectors.
Definition
The 'Consejos de Salarios' (Wage Councils) are tripartite bodies in Uruguay comprising representatives from the government, employers, and workers' unions. They are responsible for negotiating and establishing minimum wages, categories, and other working conditions for different economic sectors. Law No. 18.065 incorporated domestic workers into this system as Group 21, ensuring their wages are determined through collective bargaining, thereby promoting pay equity and transparency.
