Compensation Range
A specified minimum and maximum amount of expected pay for a position, required to be disclosed in job postings under the new legislation.
Definitions (2)
A compensation range, as defined by the Working for Workers Act amendments, is a specified span between a minimum and maximum expected remuneration for a particular job. For publicly advertised job postings in Ontario, this range must be disclosed, with specific limitations such as not exceeding a $50,000 spread for positions with expected compensation up to $200,000, ensuring that the provided range is meaningful and not excessively broad.
Under the New York Pay Transparency Law, 'compensation range' refers to the lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate of compensation that an employer, in good faith, believes to be accurate at the time of posting an advertisement for a job, promotion, or transfer opportunity. This range must be specific and cannot be open-ended. It does not include other forms of benefits or emoluments, though these may be disclosed separately.
