Comisión Interinstitucional de Igualdad Salarial

Definition
The Comisión Interinstitucional de Igualdad Salarial entre Mujeres y Hombres, or Interinstitutional Commission for Salary Equality between Women and Men, is a key governance body established by the law. It is composed of representatives from various critical institutions, including the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), the National Institute of Women (INAMU), the Ombudsman's Office (Defensoría de los Habitantes), public universities, the Central Bank of Costa Rica (BCCR), and the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC). Coordinated by the MTSS, this commission is responsible for managing and ensuring that the INEC incorporates salary equality indicators into its studies and conducts in-depth analyses of factors influencing income disparities by sex, sector, age, and other relevant variables. Its mandate includes evaluating the reasons for wage inequality and guiding policy and enforcement efforts.
