Definitions (2)

The Uruguayan Constitution, particularly Article 57, recognizes the right of workers to organize and engage in collective action, which inherently includes the right to 'collective bargaining.' This refers to the process where workers, through their trade unions, negotiate with employers or employer associations to determine terms and conditions of employment, such as wages, hours, benefits, and working conditions. This constitutional guarantee empowers workers to advocate for fair remuneration and equitable treatment, playing a vital role in shaping pay equity outcomes and ensuring that workers' voices are heard in decisions affecting their compensation.

A process through which employees, via their representative organizations, engage in dialogue and negotiation with employers to agree upon working conditions, wages, and other terms of employment, aiming to establish progressive, harmonious, and stable labor relations. This process is a key mechanism for employees to advocate for their collective interests.
