Brecha Salarial de Género

The difference in average earnings between men and women, often reflecting systemic gender-based discrimination.

Definition

La Brecha Salarial de Género (Gender Pay Gap) represents the disparity in average remuneration between men and women, often expressed as a percentage of men's earnings. This gap is typically attributed to a combination of factors, including direct wage discrimination, occupational segregation (women concentrated in lower-paying sectors or roles), undervaluation of work traditionally performed by women, and career interruptions due to caregiving responsibilities. The Mexican reform aims to reduce and ultimately eradicate this gap by mandating inspections and promoting equitable pay practices.
