BPS

The Banco de Previsión Social, Uruguay's central social security institution.

Definition

The Banco de Previsión Social (BPS) is Uruguay's central social security institution, responsible for the administration of social security benefits and the collection of contributions from employers and employees. As such, BPS maintains comprehensive records of employee remuneration across both the public and private sectors. Under the proposed Pay Gap Transparency Bill, BPS, along with other competent social security entities, is designated as the primary source of raw data on nominal remunerations of men and women, which will be provided to Inmujeres for the calculation and systematization of the national gender pay gap indicator. This role highlights BPS's critical function in facilitating data-driven policy development for pay equity.
